Acuneedling 〰️

Gentle support for pregnancy, birth preparation and postpartum recovery

Acuneedling is a form of acupuncture provided by a trained midwife, using carefully selected points that are considered appropriate during pregnancy, birth preparation and the postnatal period. It is a gentle treatment that may support comfort, relaxation and wellbeing during this important season.

At Your Family Midwife, acuneedling is offered as part of holistic midwifery care, supporting women through common pregnancy discomforts, preparation for birth, and recovery after baby arrives.

Acuneedling may assist with

Pregnancy discomforts such as:

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Heartburn

  • Constipation

  • Back, hip, pelvic girdle or sciatic pain

  • Symphysis pubis discomfort

  • Insomnia

  • Itching

  • Varicosities or haemorrhoids

  • Emotional wellbeing and relaxation

Birth preparation support may include:

  • Pre-birth preparation from 37 weeks

  • Encouraging relaxation and calm

  • Supporting pelvic blood flow

  • Supporting cervical ripening

  • Optimal fetal positioning

  • Breech support using moxibustion where appropriate

Postnatal support may include:

  • Postnatal warming with moxibustion

  • Recovery and healing support

  • Milk let-down support

  • Early mastitis support

  • Emotional wellbeing

Pre-birth acuneedling is commonly offered weekly from around 37 weeks, depending on your individual circumstances. Sessions usually involve resting comfortably on your side or seated while the needles remain in place for around 20 minutes.

Moxibustion for breech babies

Moxibustion uses a warming herb called moxa, traditionally applied near an acupuncture point on the little toe. It is commonly used between 34–36 weeks to encourage babies in a breech or transverse position to move into a more optimal position for birth.

Where suitable, I can provide treatment and teach you how to safely continue moxibustion at home.
